Celebrating Water Awareness Week

The Greater Idaho Falls Area Water Festival is an environmental education outreach to 5th-6th grade students across eastern Idaho. Water Festival will occur as a day of “organized mayhem,” the second Wednesday and Thursday in May.

Since 1998, our local Idaho Falls Water Festival planning team has brought together students, teachers, and environmental/educational professionals from many private, state, and federal agencies and organizations for this free event provided to our elementary schools. Throughout this event we hope students will learn how clean water is necessary for life, and that they can take an active role in protecting this vital local resource, now and for the future. It is our hope that this increased interest will help equip them to be informed decision makers for tomorrow.

In 2023 there were over 66 classes from 30 Idaho Falls area public and private schools – nearly 1800 students over all. Additional presenters and adding the Wednesday session allowed 5 more schools and more than 300 students the opportunity to experience our Water Festival event at the Idaho Falls’ Tautphaus Park and Gem Lake/Gem State Power Plant “Hydro-Habitat Tour."
